## Advertorials: what they are, with examples

An advertorial is an ad written in the shape of an article. Here is how the format works, why it still sells, and full examples with teardowns.

### Example pages

[ AdvertorialEcom Advertorial example: story-led kitchen product page A long-form ecom advertorial for an invented carbon-steel pan: a story lead, an honest comparison, the objections, then one offer. Copy it as one HTML file. ](/examples/carbon-steel-pan-advertorial)

### What an advertorial is

An advertorial is a paid advertisement presented in the format of an editorial article: a headline, a story, images and an argument, with the offer near the end. The word joins "advertisement" and "editorial". Print magazines ran them for decades as sponsored pages; in paid-traffic funnels the advertorial is the page between the ad and the product or order page.

Its job is to do what an ad has no room for. The ad stops the scroll in one line. The advertorial then has several hundred words to describe the reader's problem in their own words, explain why the usual fixes fall short, introduce a mechanism, answer the objections and make one offer. When the product needs explaining, that sequence gives a cold reader reasons a product page alone does not.

### The parts of a working advertorial

* **A visible advertisement label**, at the top and again near the offer.
* **A headline that selects the reader** and names a problem they already have.
* **A lead** in the reader's words, with no product in it yet.
* **A mechanism**: the reason the product works, in plain language.
* **Proof and objections**: what it does well, what it asks of the buyer, reviews you can verify.
* **One offer block** with one button and the guarantee beside it.

### Where advertorials go wrong

The failures that get pages rejected are usually about honesty rather than copy: a fake newspaper masthead, an ad label hidden in the footer, or claims the product cannot support. In the US the FTC treats an ad formatted as independent content without a clear label as deceptive, and the ad networks enforce their own versions of the same rule. The [compliance hub](/topics/compliance) covers the details.

Each example page below is written from scratch for an invented brand, carries the label a real advertorial needs, and is followed by a teardown of every section.

### Frequently asked questions

What is an advertorial?

A paid ad written and laid out like an editorial article. In funnels it sits between the ad and the product or order page and explains the problem, the mechanism and the offer at a length an ad cannot.

Is an advertorial the same as native advertising?

They overlap. Native advertising is any ad that matches the look of the platform it runs on, including in-feed units. An advertorial is the article-style landing page those units often link to.

Do advertorials still work?

They remain common in paid-traffic funnels for products that need a short explanation before the price. Whether one works for your offer is a test against sending traffic straight to the product page.
